restore corrupted image file

Hiiiii there,
Simply, one of my colleagues in CID asked me if some one open an image file (ie. jpg) with notepad, and delete some of the characters
that shown in the text file. Is there is any method to restore the image file ? or recover even 50% of the picture ?

If you cannot restore the image I would think you could certainly look at thumbs.db, restore points, and data carving for the .jpg to get a portion of it. Look for the file name.

There may be complications based on is the image found on a CD, Computer, Cell Phone, IPod, Digital Camera, etc..???

Many JPEG files are in two sections - a self contained thumbnail, and then the main high resolution data. It should be possible to start with by viewing the thumbnail.

JPEGSnoop is pretty nice and freeware.

FirasNajem, would you consider posting your results ? If you weren't able to repair them, you could upload one to take a look.
