I have a sinking feeling that this is no easy task. Hands-on experience or clues are welcome.
I began a restore session on a Windows computer using the current version of Arc Serve and the message I'm getting now is "Skip session - Not supported (Netware 3.x File Server)".
Are there tape restoration products out there that are not OS specific?
Thanks in advance.

He has a product (Tapecat) that might be what you're looking for. Drop him an email, he might be able to help. It has support for ARCserve backup tapes.

There is a good article on "forensic validation of backup tapes" that appeared on the December issue or o3magazine which worth reading. it highlights some of the tape imaging pitfalls and gives some tools used to undertake the process.
How did you get on? In the past I have been able to use Backup Exec to read some Arcserve tapes, DL a demo and try that.
How are you trying to restore? If you can catalog the tape you should be able to restore from session and select an alternate destination instead of restoring to original location.

Yoiu can use ARCserve to read some BackupExec tapes as the base format is public domain (the old windows NT backup format). But AFAIAA you cannot use BackupExec to read ARCserve as the format is proprietary.
What versionof Arcserve is that, If you're looking at NW3 tapes they were probably created with Arcserve 5, which may be the problem. I may have an older version buried in a disk box somewhere.
