Like most of you, maximizing disk I/O is probably a key step to efficiently completing your investigations. I ran a series of test to determine the ideal RAID0 stripe size for forensic analysis using real-world forensic tests. Below is a link to the results. This is the first of a several part series…next up is determing the ideal file system to use.

RAID0 is, of course, only my scratch space and not intended for storage (I have a RAID5 array for that plus backups). I hope you find this helpful if you have to setup something similar.
