If a voicemail is left for an 02 customer(bought on 02 and not tampered with in any way) on iphone the following happens
owner returns to phone to see a number (1 for one missed call for example) this number is stamped over the green accept key to highlight the said missed call,on tapping the green key you are presented with the voicemail screen with keys at the bottom….favourites/recents/contacts/keypad/voicemail
now the voicemail tab has a 1 on it and the number or name if caller is in your address book is highlighted at the top of the screen, tap the name/ number and the .amr file is played (I usually use a digital dictaphone to retrieve and have had no problems to date.
maybe worthy of note that if you missed the call because your phone was switched off then you have to "go and see" if you have any voicemails as you dont get the initial "missed call " reminder on your green key
I want to get access to the actual .amr files, I'm not interested in a recording. The last resort would be to record it directly off the phone. There must be a way of recording it though the headphone jack too?
dont know if this would work on all versions but certainly offers help for j/broken or not

I have come across twice where the voice mail was not stored on the carrier's network.
Once in Hong Kong - and I cannot tell any more what carrier or who made the telephone oops The guy traveled between various Asian countries and he preferred to have his VM on his phone, because some carriers in some places would block access to his home carrier's network, but would allow inbound calls.
Second and very recently, Google Voice. That is a whole different bucket of entertainment. D
chrism - if Visual Voicemail was operational on your exhibit a logical extraction will pull out the AMR files associated with each Voicemail.
I know XRY definitely recovers these and a bit of research i did a while ago also implied it may be possible to recover the amr file from a deleted Voicemail (it wasn't the purpose of my research, so I didn't fully retest the experiment which recovered the deleted files).
The only exception is if the iPhone's backup files are encrypted - this prevents access to the required database files.
Is the voicemail on an O2 phone stored indefinitely or if not how long will it remain on the handset?
