Hi All

I have the following issue with a phone we received for analysis. The phone (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge) was received with a broken charging port. Permission was given to replace it which was duly done. Now, we can connect the phone to the forensic workstations but Windows gives a Code 43 Error - USB malfunction.

We have tried to connect to;

Windows 10
Windows 8
Windows 7
MAC
Linux (Paladin)

All to no avail.

We desperately need to get a logical extraction but cannot get the phone to talk to the computers.

Forensic software being used; Magnet Axiom and Belkasoft.

Any thoughts?

Besides the newly replaced USB connector, there might be cracks on the board as well. Please measure for continuity between the USB port pins and the primary points they connect on the board.

If the board is not reliable, JTAG or chip-off is suggested, but those should be the two last resort possibilities.

Hi Passcode

Thanks for the advice.

I suspect you may be correct and there might be a faulty board. Chip off and JTAG is not an option unfortunately.

Hi. MOBILedit Forensic Express will perform logical via WiFi. The PC will talk to the phone once you've installed the MOBILedit 'Phone Copier' app available in Google Play; you can then run MOBILedit Forensic Express to perform the logical extraction.

PM me if you want more info.
