Hello everyone,
I have a situation in which I have a external SCSI drive bay with three tape drive and a SCSI to USB adapter, so the whole thing is running off of USB. My problem is that I am working on one tape drive in the bunch and the other two are not doing anything. The process is taking more time then I expected and had some question.
First, would it be possible to work on another tape drive in the bunch without compromising the forensic integrity of the drive I am currently working on (I am creating an image of the first tape drive and need forensic soundness). I am worried about the possibility of possible cross contamination in the information going across the USB cable (remember it is three tape drives in one box all going to the computer across one SCSI to USB adapter cable).
Second, is it possible to open the box and remove one of the other drives while still maintaining power to the other two drives with out causing any damage to the tape drives, SCSI box, computer, or forensic imaging of the first drive.
Thank you in advanced for any help you may be able to provide.
Looks like nobody has replied to you here……
Using the USB Adapter, it's likely that you will only be able to access one device at at time as you cannot daisy chain. USB interface will be slower than SCSI -> SCSI due to the throughput of SCSI vs. USB.
In relation to the forensic integrity, it really depends on what you are doing, and what software you are running. Best bet is to leave 1 process running so as to prevent any problems.
If you elaborate, i'm sure you'll get more help here..
