Shell items are artifacts that can be found throughout Windows systems, yet are poorly understood. Due to this lack of understanding, there is little impetus to include these artifacts in analysis, nor engage tool authors to include coverage of artifacts that are missed completely by the current, commonly-endorsed tools.
