Dear all,
while surfing the net for Xmas gifts I came across this
The description reads
* Easy to install and use - no technical skill required
* Reads any SIM card in any country on any network
* Retrieve all deleted data within minutes
* Read, restore and undelete SMS messages
* Read and restore phonebook
I feel is it's pretty useless nowadays because most if not all mobile phones store address book and SMS messages on their internal memory rather than on the SIM slots… am I right?
Are there situations where such tool might come in handy?
Thanks
P.
Firstly;
This seems like spam.
Second;
There are still a large number of phones that store data on the SIM card, especially any Dual SIM devices.
Many users may store their data on the SIM before switching phone, then copy the data to their phone but the SIM may still hold vital information so could never be ruled out.

How do you think I could possibly make profit out of someone buying stuff from Amazon with a clean public (i.e. no referrer/affiliation) link? 😯 I linked Amazon right to avoid this kind of thoughts - which could have made sense if I had linked my website or a website I might be affiliated with…

I didn't know about dual SIM devices storing data (both contacts and SMS?) on the SIM card. So far (say for the last 4-5 years), every phone I've bought and used had address book and SMS stored in proprietary format on the phone… that's why I thought it would be useless such SIM data recovery tool. And that's why I wrote this topic to ask for the opinion of mobile phone forensics pratictioners.

That's true, you're right on this I actually did the same and keep a core of main contacts and some old SMS on my SIM card! roll
Thanks
