Topic starter

Hi,

I am currently progressing through my PhD looking at Internet of Things forensics. My main topic is looking at developing acquisition methods and tools. One of things I am currently looking at is reverse engineering the IoT hardware (e.g smart home hubs, standalone sensors) to find out what data is stored…newer hubs are actually increasing in features such as local processing.

My question to experienced forensic investigators, have you been able to acquire data from smart home devices? and if so what methods have you used? encountered any problems?

IoT is a pretty broad topic, have you reviewed research currently available?

Jessica Hyde and Brian Moran at the SANS DFIR conference speaking on Amazon Alexa earlier this year comes to mind. The current DFWRS challenge is based around IoT. Just two examples.
