Hi,

I intend to carry out some testing on new tools, by running some psts through them to see if there are differing extraction, de-duping etc results. However, in order to do this I need first of all to establish exactly how many msgs and attachments there are in each pst. Would anyone know of software or outlook plug-in that can perform this? I will also be working on nsf files and embedded objects in loose Office documents that are not attachments/part of an email container. So will also be looking for software / plug in that can tell me the # of emails & attachments in nsfs and software that can tell me the number of embedded objects in loose Office documents.

Thanks very much
Emma

Emma, try fookes software aid4mail forensic edition. www.fookes.com It parses out the message files and gives you a count. You can also de-dupe and run keywords against the files. This is not a quick solution but I believe is a great tool to have.

Emma,

With the NSFs are you only interested in mail files or in Notes databases in general?

Also do you have Notes? If so, I could probably find you a script to do what you want

Cheers
Ron

PST
If you load a copy of the PST into an Outlook profile you can use the advanced find function to count the number emails/attachments in a particular email account, just make sure you choose the right account from the advanced find menu.

NSF
You can do something similar to NSF if you load a copy of the NSF file into Notes and selecting the work space, then right click on the information icon and then click on properties. This should give you a count of the number of emails.

I think that you will find that it is Properties then Information, this will give you a count of the documents but not of the attachments.
