Is anyone using a Solo 4 Forensic imaging device?
I'd be most interested in hearing your views with regard to its usability, imaging speed, etc.
Thanks,
Jonathan
Like it a lot. We use the Solo-3 and are getting the 4 shortly. Worked with it a bit at Legal Tech.
PM me if you need a contact name over at ICS for sales/product info.
I've had the Solo 3 Forensic for a couple of years and can't fault it; piece of cake to use and it's never let me down. Unfortunately can't say the same after a couple of days of trialing the Solo 4 Forensic…but perhaps it could be just me? 😯 I'll keep testing it for a couple of more days and see if matters improve. Watch this space.
Hi Jonathan
I have the SOLO4 and have been using it now for nearly 3 months. I had two of the SOLO3's and needed a system with higher acqusition speed due to the size of hard drives today. The SOLO4 has been able to handle 2 - 1TB suspect drives concurrently at speeds of up to 6.5GB\min. I have two issues with the SOLO4 but the Support Team at ICS has been very responsive and I anticpate the issues to be resolved in the next software release. The date and time defaults to the log instead of the acqusition case name or number. Also the Case date and time do not automatically populate, but that should also be fixed soon. Other than that I am very pleased with the performance and capability of the SOLO4. I am not a reseller nor do I have a financial relationship with them. I really like the SOLO4, also just bought the adapters for the eSATA, MicrosSATA and the ZIFF drives.
Cheers
Jim
Thanks for the reply Jim. Will keep plugging away with the Solo 4 Forensic, so far am just not finding it intuitive, but am happy to admit that this may be down to some element of 'user error'! Should be getting hold of Logicube's Forensic Dossier very soon which appears to have similar capabilities to the Solo 4 Forensic. A 'compare and contrast' exercise should be interesting.

We have two of these. So far, I am impressed with the speed and the simplicity of the unit. Being able to image 2 drives at once really does save a lot of time.
The only thing I would like to point out is that I have noticed the cables connecting the drives to the solo appear slightly unstable/insecure. Any movement or slight knock can easily disconnect the cables from the machine. Has anyone else noticed this?
Apologies on the quick, short reply. Busy day!!

Nice unit as well. I like the compactness of it so it looks a little less threatening at a client location with the wires internal.
Also like the TD1.
Been looking at all three lately to decide which way to go. If the case load kicks in maybe I'll get to have all three )
Has anyone actually compared Solo 4 and Logicube Seriously?
I have been testing Logicube recently and I’m not very pleased with its performance when creating two E01 images from two source drives simultaneously.

I've been comparing the Solo 4 against the Forensic Dossier; I prefer to create DD images and when imaging 2 source drives to 2 destination drives in 2GB chunks, no compression, MD5 and SHA-1 hash the source disks, the Forensic Dossier has been faster.
Cool
Does Solo 4 offer any compression?
As far as I'm aware the Logicube does not support compression and it supports only SHA-256/ MD5
Any tests carried on E01 imaging?
