when it comes to speak about tools for mobile forensics, we can generally distinguish across 3 types of equipment
- open source software really few stuff but worth it
- commercial software
- dedicated hardware equipment
for starting i'd suggest to collect some of the worthy free opensource tools, there are really good tools for analyzing iOS devices around, like iphone backup analizer and libimobiledevice for data extraction.
then consider buying oxygen forensics, it's a software solution, and it works pretty well for a software only solution.
with these, forget about physical extractions tho, if you really want to go deep and need physical extraction of the flash content, you definitely need to go for hardware dedicated equipment and more expansive stuff.
I personally tested cellebrite UFED, and it works really well, but i'm fairly sure XRY also works well, yet i cant pronounce myself on it as i never tried it out on my own.
Thank rampage,
I have work demo ufed, it's fantastic
can you tell me software solution opensource?
I have buy ume36 hardware, but only backup / restore, very good!
open source mobile forensics is really specific, there are no tools supporting variety of devices.
take a look at DEFT Linux distrubition, it includes some tools preinstalled for iOS forensics and android forensics.
also look at sentoku linux, which is specific for mobile malware analysis tho.
Opensource for Windows?
