Hello everyone,

I've been trying to research the capabilities of Symantec's Endpoint Protection product (or infact any Symantec product), specifically with regard to whether it can securely delete information.

The product websites seem like circular links and I can't find a UK number for any sales, so I'd really appreciate it if anyone here had any experience of these products and their capabilities.

Thanks,

Rick.

Just checked with a client that uses Endpoint and it does not include a secure delete function that they saw.

I went to the Symantec Endpoint Protection site and did not find that capability listed on the Data Sheet PDF, or the features link.

Norton Utilities includes a secure delete function.

We use Jetico's BCwipe v4 ( http//www.jetico.com/wiping-bcwipe/ ) Quote from site "BCWipe will automatically wipe all contents of any file or folder that is deleted."

An alternative is Heidi Computers' Eraser ( http//eraser.heidi.ie )

Just make sure you don't need it back roll

Thanks for the replies - what I've found seems to tally up with your reply BitHead.

On a related note, is there an established procedure for looking for the signs that a secure delete app has been used? I've my own ideas for techniques that have been successful in the past, but I'm starting to wonder if there isn't a better way.

Thanks,

Rick.
