I too use ESET's products on my personal machines. NOD32 and Smart Security both use very little system resources compared to their competitor's products, although I hear Norton 2009 has improved in that regard.

However, I had a virus for some time, which ESET could not delete or do anything with, even in safe mode - it was one of those that kept coming back by itself. Kaspersky however, took it straight out.

And with regards to their firewall (although I know this isn't necessary for forensic workstations) - someone pointed my in the direction of this site recently

Take the leak test and see how your firewall responds. Weren't quite sure what to think of it myself.

Kind Regards

Seems odd to me to judge a firewall on it's failure to stop an application making an outgoing connection - I kind of expect my computer to be able to transmit data out when I ask it to … It is incomming things that I want to be blocked !

Leak tests are designed to test the abilities of a personal firewall to alert when an unknown application tries to access the Internet. They simulate a rogue program trying to phone home.
