In terms of speed what I experienced was that it really depended on the drives you use. SATA to SATA went at UDMA-6 so was quicker than say IDE to IDE. For SATA to SATA it averaged out at about 3gb-3.5gb a minute and to be completely honest was no quicker than using a Tableau T35es connected through eSata.
Really good info, thanks. I have not seen a lot of information on the Dossier outside of Logicube.
What drives were you using for SATA-SATA?

From memory they were stock-standard WD 7200rpm SATA drives that we used for the test - this is going back about six months though!
We also tested the Voom Hardcopy II, a Solo 3 and a Talon. The Solo we tested was last in terms of speed by a long way. I think the fastest was the Hardcopy, but it got pipped on the overall package by the Dossier. I also don't think the Hardcopy II did SATA natively - could be wrong here though and I know there is now a Hardcopy III available.

… and is therefore the worst choice if you charge by the hour. wink

I always plan the best way to save my clients money in the acquisition stage. My last acquisition I saved my client about $800 and he was really happy that I did that for him, and I expect repeat business from him very soon.
I wouldn't even joke about using an inefficient method to increase my billable.
This does however remind me of when I was told a story by a manager in a major consultancy firm. They had to image a room full of computers, and told the client they could save money by fixing a fee per HDD instead of billing by the hour. The client agreed to the fee structure. They then walked in with a boot disk solution and a bunch of external hard drives. They basically imaged the whole room in parallel in one day, and pocketed a few weeks worth of fees.
I tested out my TD1 today and was pleased with the results. With the dd option an 80gb 5400rpm SATA drive image averaged 2.8gb per min and a 160gb 7200rpm drive averaged 3.4gb per min. (both gb per min. results per the TD1.) The 80gb took 33 minutes to image and the 160gb took 47 minutes. These totals included the MD5 and SHA1 hashing.
During all phases of the imaging the source and destination drives remained warm but not hot to the touch.
I like it!

Yes, the hardcopy III supports SATA natively. And they are fast, too.

I'm not an idiot. For goodness sake…
Well ive tested the TD1 and yes I find it a good product, easy to use, infact could you get away with a "none forensic trained" employee using it? ….. Im not even going to start on that one!!!!!
It works 100%. it is fast and really idiot proof. the only thing i have not tested is the firmware update but im sure that will be smooth as silk.
Would I buy buy it ?
honest opinion
No
now you may ask why, but its just because im a stubborn sod ive been told. I dont like being dictated to, and if you have to purchase a FRED to get a appropriate "UltraBay II" device then so be it.
sorry for the rant lol
