Tech Vest that scans for IMSI/IMEI

http//www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2408751/The-spy-device-really-undercover-Vest-scans-nearby-mobiles-track-steal-owners-personal-details.html

I noted the comments left at the foot of the article suggesting what the security services used? The SAS, MI5 and MI6 don't need one of these tech vests as they have wrist watches that do the same thing, and much much more. Besides in this hot/sweltering weather it might look odd someone walking up and down in overdressed (garment/s) to conceal the vest. Perhaps the spies only come out during the winter months.

For those interested in mobile investigation there are a huge range of investigation topics [hence a topic for a Diploma? ;-)], but here are ten (not ranked in order of importance)

1 ) legal or illegal use of transmitting equipment?
2 ) is it a basestation (BTS/NodeB/eNodeB) or not?
3 ) does it produce pico, micro, mini or macro cell coverage?
4 ) is the device actually a reprogrammed mobile phone?
5 ) does the device require a (U)ICC/(U)SIM?
6 ) if device interacts with a particular network, would that network be technically complicit in this activity?
7 ) would technical network involvement be through operator network, trusted third party network or non-trusted network?
8 ) what power output does the device emit?
9 ) what detection equipment would be needed to identify one of these devices when active?
10 ) for this particular matter is there a need for a combination of elements (progs/apps)/devices/networks required to enable the harvesting of IMSI/IMEI and trace location/movement?

The version for tropical Islands/seaside is incorporated in a scuba diving suit (which the good guys from MI5 wear over their dinner jacket, normally) 😯 .

Deemed possible (though not very practical)

Some UK newspaper are seemingly going on on anything - even vaguely - connected with NSA, surveillance, big brother (and what not).

JFYI

100 dB attenuation! !

The interior fabric is comprised of metal-covered fibres that shield your phone from signals of up to 100dB between 800MHz-2.4GHz. For comparison, various law-enforcement forensic bags offer 80dB of shielding

…mmm, yes it does appear that way at times.

I guess switching OFF the phone is a thing of the past.

Still I guess as long as we can technically understand what the products/devices are and do then it makes it alot easier to examine or advice.
