I just got a small USB device that looks like a car key from a car manufacturer.
The instructions say "insert into USB port".
When inserted it is recognized as a "Human Interface > Tenx 1Key Web Device".
vendor ID 1130 (Tenx Technology, Inc.)
Class/subclass/protocol 03/01/01
It pushes keystrokesWindows Key
R key
http//
Return key
In essence it works as a keyboard buffer, that does nothing but pushes the buffer in, on power-on.
A clever little thing. Completely circumvents disabled auto-runs.
I am thinking there could be some use to similar solution for quick forensic collection or such.
Anyone interested in digging it apart, I'll mail it to you.

Are the commands editable or are they burned into firmware? Indeed, such a device could very well be loaded with scripts that would collect data on a subject system and store it in on-board flash. The trick is to make the device appear as a "keyboard" and not a storage device at boot-up or plug-in.
I do not think the it is rewritable but I did not dig into it.
On a side note, the key is spoken for. I look forward to some info sharing on that!
