Hi All,
I have recently developed an application to enable expedient analysis of geo-tagged images. Quite a lot of newer handsets are geo-tagging photographs using the phones inbuilt GPS.
GeoExif scans a directory of images (JPEGs) specified by a user and filters the images that have geo-location tags in them. It also has the capability to output these into Google Earth using a KML file.
This allows an investigator to visibly see the approximate location of where an image was taken. This can be incredibly useful for placing handsets and possibly people in locations at specified dates and times.
I don't know of a tool that already has the capability to output this data into Google Earth so I guess it is a first of its kind.
The tool is Windows based and is relatively small at ~50KB.
I have only tested this on the iPhone at the moment as it is the only handset I have access to. I have a distinct feeling that I need to modify my code slightly to get it to function correctly with other handsets such as Blackberry and HTC. I hope to include this extra functionality within the week.
I am quite keen to see this tool put to good use so am looking for testers who can provide me with some feedback regarding possible bugs and any new features that I may have overlooked.
At present this tool is Law Enforcement only.
If anybody would like a copy of my program for testing purposes please email me at geoexif@gmail.com.
Many thanks.
I would be interested in testing this program (I'll email you my LE email later today).
There is another program that claim's to read geo-tag data in exif data and shows the location on Google maps. Its called "GeoSetter" (first hit if you do a Google search). Might be worth a look and a play at the very least. Its not however designed as a forensic tool. I haven't used it in anger with a case as yet hence the comment "claim's to read geo-tag data".
I would also like to test this application.

I'm intrested in testing!!!
Do you have any experience with beta-testers? I have… I can tell you… it does NOT work. When I developed a tool I allowed 25 beta-testers and installed a special forum etc. etc… guess how much feedback I got.. Next to nothing. Just 1 guy told me that he had problem processing a file. That was it. Totally waste of time. Sorry. Hope you will have some different experience.
