"The computer forensics community has reached out to us and requested a free version of Helix3. We applaud their commitment and years of support and in return we are providing a free version."

Yes, just seen the press release confirming this - http//
Great news for the community and always excellent when combined voices are heeded. Well done to e-fense for this, I think it can only help with the sale of the new Helix Pro too, I wish them all the best with the new tool.
I've had the opportunity to see an RC1 version and it looks cool, boots into Linux, Mac and PC for volatile data, RAM and disk imaging etc, will be interested to see what the community makes of it.
I'll ask if efense would provide a version for someone to review, I'm sure Jamie could organise that? Probably not me as I train Helix and wouldnt want to be seen as having a vested interest.
Hi nickfx, that could possibly be me. Am liaising with your brother regards Helix Enterprise, so let's see what happens.
Cheers.
In a similar vein I received the following e-mail this AM
The highly anticipated Helix3 Pro has arrived!
You can download your copy from the Membership Forum in the Downloads dropdown menu.
When you log into the forum you should notice a new category, "Helix3 Professional." This is where you should post questions, comments or suggestions on Helix3 Pro. You still have access to the Helix3 Category, which is where you should post questions, comments or suggestions on Helix3.
e-fense is also pleased to announce the return of the free version of Helix3. Out of respect for the loyal Helix3 Community the old version of Helix3 is available. However those seeking this free copy should remember that no support, manuals or the many other rewards that come with membership will be available. Helix3 Pro is the superior product of the future!
Sincerely,
The e-fense team
I think its great. Regardless of the reasoning behind the re-release. I think they will catch more file with honey than with vinegar. I downloaded the Helix32009 iso as soon as I saw the email. Ive looked it over and not much has changed in the way of tools. Without going into an indepth look, truecrypt is the only thing I see in the gui. I'll CLI it later and see if there is something new.
Greetings,
I am very happy to see it back out, and with TrueCrypt. Thank you, e-fense.

great news, as a student we use helix a lot.
