Dear All,

Help me out !

When i try to mpp format file in MS Project 2010 i am getting this error, "The file .mpp cannot be opened. " Project has worked fine for me, until today. Is there something I can do myself to repair mpp file?

I don't know if there is much available to repair the file, however you might be able to recover a slightly older version of it. If it's like all other M$ office products it'll create temporary backup files of the project whenever it's being worked on. These temp files are deleted after you close the program, but data recovery software might be able to find an old copy.

I'm just not sure what software offhand is able to carve out that type….

Edit perhaps give this program a shot…but, if the file is really critical it might be wise to make a clone of your HDD just to have a safe backup in case data recovery is your only option later.

For some reason if I try to post a link to the software that claims to be able to repair these I'm automatically logged out…perhaps they've been flagged for spam in the past. ?

Are other MPP files effected, or is it just this one file?

Do you have a backup of the file to try?

If you look inside the file with a Hex editor what does it look like? (e.g. was it zeroed out). Is the file length reasonable? Has the file been encrypted (e.g. held for ransom)?

Hello.
It is just only one mpp file. I have no back up.

The problem is that I could open the file before (in Project).
