In the UK communications data is required to be retained for 1 year and accessible to authorities.
Are the records for landlines and contract phones retained for longer? For example, on billing information you can see all the dialed numbers and times. Does this information have a longer retention period?

The data you mentioned is retained for longer than a yr, how long though, it depends on the network.

In general what is the range of retention for the large operators and landlines? Is the process for obtaining this data different from regular communications data?
