Hello,

I am doing some research around UK law relating to digital forensics and computer crime - i have looked into the computer misuse act, RIPA, Human rights, Freedom of information and data protection
I need to research around the criminal Justice act

please, to save me time time, can anyone point me to specific parts of the Criminal Justice act which directly relate to digital/computer crime.

Thanks

Do not forget the PACE and the associated Codes of Practice - Code B - around 7.5, 7.6, 7.14 and 7.15 if memory serves

the ACPO guide to computer based evidence and opsi.gov.uk should cover most of it

As as I'm aware there's no UK statute which deals with or even mentions digital forensics. The ACPO guidelines are just that; guidelines, though they are widely respected and adhered to.

The book 'Building a Digital Forensic Laboratory Establishing and Managing a Successful Facility' which besides being a pretty good book all round has a chapter which deals with UK laws that impact on digital forensic practitioners. And no, I have no financial or other link to it or its authors.

Correct - Spot on ……. Its not law. Everyone seems to be frightened of Principle 2

'In circumstances where a person finds it necessary to access original data held on a computer or on storage media, that person must be competent to do so and be able to give evidence explaining the relevance and the implications of their actions
