I know that the Digital Forensics Lab of most UK police forces use EnCase.

However when they get one of the later model iphones that's locked and encrypted is the only option for them to brute force it if they can't find the passcode or backup from anywhere else?

Are they allowed to brute force it or is this not allowed?

IP Box and such devices are fairly new do they usually have these things?

Methodology and use of technology is different from force to force. There is no country-wide policy on how to deal with mobile phones.

Edit also, if a force uses EnCase for their PCs, it doesn't neccessarily follow that they use it for their phones.
