Hiya Forensicators

Can anyone help me out, i am looking to purchase some new writeblockers for my company. I have been doing some research into USB3 forensic write blockers and i havent been able to find out much on these.

Does anyone know if they exist or if any company is planning on bringing one out soon?

We currently go firewire 800 out from the blocker.

Thanks in advance

Have you consider an eSATA connected write blocker like the T35es from Tableau? I find the throughput is close to the full performance of the SATA drives I've used it with. It should definitely be better than Firewire800.

Agreed on the field laptop I use e-sata and FW800 ins and outs. Nice and quick with TIM.

Thanks for the reply

Yes we currently use eSATA out to the caddy and firewire 800 from the write blocker.

I have been looking at the T35s yes. Are you saying you currently go eSATA in and out? Doesnt this create a bottleneck?

With the T35's in the field

EVIDENCE -> T35es FW800 R/O -> Laptop running TIM -> T35es e-sata R/W -> COLLECTION DRIVE

Office/Lab I will use e-sata in and out but on different controller cards

EVIDENCE -> T35es e-sata R/W -> Motherboard e-sata controller -> Workstation running TIM -> PCIe to SATA ll RAID controller -> external RAID 0 e-SATA array

The laptop has a single e-sata interface that is shared (annoying) with a USB port.

Side rant is I want Apple to get over their fire-wire conspiracy and offer e-sata on their laptops.

Thanks

Yes we are currently using Fastbloc2 Firewire 800, to MacPro and eSATA out to destination, when in the field.

Was just curious to see if USB3 comes out on writeblockers and would offer improved speed.

In theory yes, but on rotational drives, you likely won't see any difference over eSATA (because eSATA throughput exceeds what you can get out of a rotational drive). SSDs are the real driver for USB3 in the storage market imho.
