Hi all,

Has anyone had any success in getting VFC to work under Windows 7. I am having issues specifically with getting the USB dongle recognised.

Thanks in advance

Ben

I take it you are using Win7 x64 ? (since that seems to be everyones favourite flavour for support issues at the moment).

VFC works on Win7 (x86 and x64) but requires some tweaking on x64, particularly with respect to UAC and driver sigining.

VFC requires VMware-mount 5.5 and only supports MIP mounted images using MIP2.6.

The latest dongle driver available from the MD5 web site is both x86/x64 compliant so should install on Win7 - try using right-click run as admin when installing.

VMware-mount is a little more tricky to install - easiest way is to just copy the folder Program Files\VMware\VMware Diskmount Utility (contains 5 files) from an XP install straight into the Program Files (x86)\VMware.

When running VFC, again make sure to right-click run as admin.

x64 and MIP 3+ support will be available in VFC2, release date TBC but hopefully not too far away.

Michael,

Thanks for your reply. I am indeed running Windows 7 x64. I have followed your instructions, and am still getting an error telling me that the trial period has expired. When I click ok, it then says that it could not validate on start - exiting.

Could this be something to do with the UAC tweaks you mentioned?

Thanks

Ben

If the dongle is plugged in and you are happy the drivers installed correctly, perhaps you also have another green Keylok in the same machine?

The validation on start checks for the presence of a vmware app (player, workstation or server), checks for vmware-mount 5.5 and also checks for the dongle.

The FTK1.x dongle is the same manufacturer as for VFC but for some reason you have to insert the VFC dongle, then the FTK dongle - not sure why, the manufacturar states they should work side by side regardless.

If you do not have another dongle of the same type, uninstall and re-install the dongle drivers - making sure to remove the dongle when prompted and only insert it when requested to.

You can always validate your dongle is being seen by using the VFC license manager.
