Hello,
I need to recover video material from a disk/raw image that comes from a RapidOS RS-3060 SVB CCTV Recorder (I don't have the original recorder, only the disk).
I’ve tried automating the recovery process using tools like HX-Recovery, Magnet DVR Examiner, and tons of random free tools. None of them recognized the data. While inspecting the HEX representation in WinHex, I found a lot of FFD8 headers, but manually extracting a single frame saved as a JPG file results in an unreadable image.
I’m unsure which direction to take since all my commercial tools have failed, and unfortunately, manual efforts have led to nothing. It’s possible that the manufacturer used some kind of custom codec, which might be why the manual recovery isn’t working—perhaps the “stream of the file” is encoded.
If any of you have experience with this kind of MJPEG CCTV recorder, please let me know. 🙂
Best regards.
I'm not familiar with this system, but I would imagine the camera streams are being distributed across the drive, hence why you're unable to carve from the typical start-end jpeg markers.
That leaves you with a significant reverse engineering task, especially without the system to hand. Most likely lots of testing and bespoke code would be necessary, although do contact the manufacturer (if possible) as their CCTV player may have drive-replay capability.
DVR Examiner will also offer profiling and support, so that's another avenue to consider. They used to offer a mercenary service, wherein if you stump up the cash, they'll provide support as soon as able - though I'm unsure if this still stands since Magnet acquired them.
