I've been researching the Index.dat file which tracks the Internet History for IE7 and was looking for more information regarding the Visit Count value. I noticed that when I go to one website the number of records and visit count that get recorded appear as though several variations of the same website were visited (www.google.com, www.google.co, etc.) and the Visit Count for each comes back as more than one even though only one website was visited once.

Can anyone tell me how to determine when a Unique website was visited by the user and not as a bi-product of the website's links? Does anyone know how to use the Visit Count information from the Index.dat in such a way that would illustrate the web use volume? I'm currently using EnCase v6.14 but other tools would be appreciated.

Thanks,
