To collect data over OBDII from Apple CarPlay or Android Auto depends on the software suite you have in use. By connecting a OBDII adapter alone you only get access to the in-car platform of DTRs and other powertrain parameters.

But first think of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto of mirroring the mobile. Both in-car platform restrict the installation of new apps heavily - due to safety considerations (no gaming while driving). As each car manufacturer deals with both Apple and Google directly on implementing their dashbords, no consistent answer possible. See here

If you use iVe Berla you have better chance to get evidence out. You may consider that the mobile itself has more neartime evidence than both dashboards. The sensors, gps, cams, radars and actuators of a car can solve questions all around the core multi media interface layer.

As of April 1st, 2018 all newly immatriculated cars will have eCall connectitvity (some over OnStar)

Rolf,

My personal car is a 2014 Infiniti Q50 which I have now determined runs

Android Version 2.3
System Version 2.3.7.1095

What is surprising to me is that an "Intel Inside" logo appears when the car starts up; I did not think Android ran on Intel chips natively.

There is an option to "install applications by USB", so now I am going to start hacking my car system to see what I can install.

I wonder if I can boot my car's system from a USB drive……..

Little delayed -) Here a slideshare with interesting parts - not all. Try to understand the data flow from the external shark fin antenna to the internal bus components. TPMS Tire Pressure Monitoring System components are part of car accident timeline physics (which tire first lost pressure e.g.).
