Good idea, although I have had some meetings with a number of universities and suggested to the lecturers that they should join these forums as they appear to be noticeably absent; but so far I have not spotted anyone from these establishments pop up.
I think that's a fair observation. I'm hoping that situation will change over the next month or two, though, when the new education section and one or two other things are in place. Certainly greater involvement from the academic community would be most welcome (IMHO).

How dare you ask such a basic question. From now on you should only ask questions that are deemed worthy of responses from those who know everything.
This site could be helpful but way too many egos and so so unfriendly.
Most people are willing to answer questions if the person asking has shown he/she has made some effort to find the answer on their own. For example, had the original poster said, "I searched Google to find out where Microsoft Windows XP stores the IP address, but failed to get any useful information. And here, by the way is the search string I used 'windows xp ip address store'," I am sure nobody would have revealed their ego. )

It will be a positive step if we can have more engagement with the universities, there has to be a great deal of knowledge we can share. I have been trying to develop a mutually beneficial relationship with a local university offering suggested projects for final year students and assisting students where possible with some contact time in our unit. We have also been the only police unit to offer a student a year's placement; this has now led to some interest being shown by other units which can only benefit us all in the long term.

Hate to play devils advocate here, but I think that most all the ppl who have been around here a bit, would still google the question they ask, the only reason being is that people are joining and typing well I googled it and couldn't find it. When someone else google's it it comes up first 1-5 hits.

I wouldn't be so sure about that assertion. P
However, I am from the days when USENET reigned as a means of exchanging information and asking questions. There was a certain protocol everyone followed which is largely missing from participants of web-based forums. I am not complaining about ForensicFocus, merely making a statement based on my own observations.
Yes, I must admit that sometimes I am reminded of when AOL users were let loose on USENET. Can anyone say "me too!"?
