> I'd like to see an interview with forensic chicks. Babes of investigations.
That's actually a really good suggestion. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that this become the title of a new calendar…but from the very beginning of my time in infosec, I have met few women in the field. The ones I have met have been diligent, dedicated and possessed a professionalism that far surpassed many of the men they worked with. For me, as a team leader, this was a God-send, particularly when it came to completing work for clients.
Good question? I asked a question? Wasn't that more of a demand?
Did you see the request for an interview with Cynthia Cooper? Or an interview with faudster, Sam Antar?Skip
lol
Just a quick follow up.
All,
I've contacted (or attempted to contact) the majority of people suggested in this thread together with one or two suggested privately. I'll update you with who is willing to be interviewed shortly and we can then both schedule the interviews and decide which questions we'd like to ask.
I hope everyone had a good New Year!
Kind regards,
Jamie
Update I've now heard back from a number of those contacted and I'm delighted to report that everyone (so far) has agreed to be interviewed. I'll shortly be posting further details in a new forum where we can submit questions for each interviewee but in the meantime if anyone has up to date contact details for the following I'd appreciate it if you could PM me (my mails bounced)
Matt Pepe
Ed Skoudis
Bill Nelson
Cheers,
Jamie
The new forum has been created here with details of six people who have agreed to be interviewed (I expect at least another two or three to give the thumbs up next week with more to follow).
Please use the Interviews forum ONLY to post potential questions to those who have agreed to be interviewed (i.e. no new threads/topics please). Each thread starts with details of the interviewee and questions should then be posted as follow up replies. Suggestions for further interviewees to me by email or PM please, or use this forum to discuss ideas.
The individuals listed in the Interviews forum have very kindly offered their time to answer our questions and I hope we can take advantage of their generosity. In other words, get posting!
Jamie
Please post your questions for John Patzakis of Guidance Software (the makers of EnCase) in the interviews forum. John is the latest member of the forensic community to agree to be interviewed and I hope to be able to bring results of the interviews with Jesse Kornblum and Brian Carrier by the end of the month. There are also a number of others waiting to be interviewed (see the open topics in the forum) so please take advantage of this opportunity to post your questions!

How about some interviews with leading legal authorities in the forensic arena? Judges, lawyers, top cops - What conflicts are they seeing when the government runs into civilian CF types? How can civilian CFEs produce better cases?
How about somebody from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and other countries equivalents? How can we better handle CP cases/evidence?
It might also be entertaining at least, to hear case/war stories from hands on CFEs, especially anyone that has been in the business for a while.
Thanks for those suggestions, Jerry. I'm currently trying to persuade (very gently!) some of those working for LE to share their views and opinions. I had hoped to bring results of the first (non-LE) interviews this month but it looks like I've underestimated the time it's going to take so next month now looks like a better bet. Looking ahead, I think it's now clear that I should do this as a kind of rolling programme which should mean that once we finally get started there will be at least one or two interviews ready to publish each month. With that in mind, if anyone else out there has any suggestions for interviewees please let me know (and keep doing so!)
Cheers,
Jamie

It can only help. Remaining tight-lipped and secretive can only result in increasing conflicts between LE and non-LE. Civilian CFEs aren't going to just disappear so we all probably ought to realize we're on the same team, so to speak.
David Shaver (Army CID) or Thomas Milley (DCFL)
I think it would be interesting to see how CF is being used from the DoD's stand point – as part of the arsenal!
Good ideas, everyone, keep 'em coming!

May I suggest Andy Sheldon from Evidence Talks.
I suggest him as I personally believe that he is undoubtedly one of the best computer forensic minds in the UK, possibly the world.
Technical genious.
Gentleman.
It doesnt get much better in my book.

Simon
