I've seen a sticky post here about driver packs for mobile phone. my question is, I see packs of 22 cables for forensic use going for $500 when cables go all day at swap meets and ebay for a few bucks each.
Is it feasible to piece together a cable set from local swap meets and ebay and then download free drivers off of the internet for use with software like bitpim and mobiledit? Any downsides or reasons not too?
Thanks,
Matt
From what I have seen with all the kits I have at work, I can use virtually any cable as long as it is the correct cable for the device. Only a few times have I had to actually use a specific cable that came with the forensic tool.
The only real difference I have seen between cable from the kits and ones from another source is the pinning. The ones in the kits usually are pinned just for data when the ones you buy from a retail store have data and power pins.
The price you're paying for a complete kit is the price of convenience. Yes, you can order nearly any cell phone data cable online for a few bucks.
Thank you both very much. I thought that was probably the case but figured it was best to check here before hitting ebay )
We initially purchased a bulk load, however with so many differing handsets out there I'm constantly getting more to add to the collection from various sources.
