I need to purchase a new laptop for some of my remote investigations and the offerings of higher end pieces that still support Windows 7 Ultimate are becoming few. I'm just curious about those of you that are using Windows 10 on your workstations using tools such as EnCase, Internet Evidence Finder, Cellebrite, etc. I would appreciate hearing about any of the good and/or bad.
Thanks in advance.
Prior to leaving the police force I worked for (in August 2016), I was running Windows 10 on my main workstation without issue. I was regularly using X-Ways Forensics, IEF, NetClean/Griffeye, EnCase 6/7, and had just started using EnCase 8 on a few jobs (also without apparent issue).
I'm now running GetData's Forensic Explorer quite regularly on Windows 10 without any apparent issues.
Hope this helps!
Ben
Helps a lot Ben.
Thank you very much.
Win10 (including and Win 8) have been available for a long time now. Over 4 years.
Any tool that doesn't work on Win8/10 is likely to be very out of date in other ways as well. e.g. doesn't support the latest browsers artefacts. You should be pretty safe with Win10 now.
Thanks guys. I appreciate the feedback.
Our entire unit (40 people) all run windows 10 with latest forensic tools. We haven't had any problems.
