I am setting up two Dell XPS 17s for mobile workstations. I would like some feedback on whether you are installing SP1 on your workstations and any compatibility or performance issues.

Thanks.
Aaron

Anything in particular?

TSK fls doesn't run on 64-bit, but you can get around that using 32-bit VM, or running a Linux distro via VMWare…but without more info, I don't even know if you're concerned about that.

Ditto what Harlan said. Running 7-Ult and other than a couple of apps that want 32 bit, no probs. FTK3 and X-Ways running just fine. Trying to recall the name of a forensic app that I wanted but couldn't play nice in 64 bit.

I have had no issues with 64-bit, but I recall the bad press surrounding SP1 when it was released, so that was my main concern. It was causing blue screens and other issues. I will backup and try SP1. I run the SIFT inside VM. Thanks for the feedback on FTK running ok. Will post if I have any issues afterwards. Thanks for the replies.

No problems with SP1. There were some extra device drivers so at last my old HP printer worked correctly

You'll have to run XRY in a 32-bit VM.

Haven't had issues on the main two systems or field units…that I know of. There have been quirks but have not narrowed to anything in particular. 64 bit is an issue with certain cell phone acquisition/analysis packages so we have had to run in VM's which can have own issues with dongles and/or USB.
