I need to examine the windows.edb file from a Windows 7 machine without having to purchase a third party software program like Windows Search Index Extractor. Does anyone know how to examine this file using FTK 3?

Try http//www.woanware.co.uk/esedbviewer/ I haven't used this yet so I can't provide useful tips but it may help you today.
