Hi

I have to prepare a course about Windows Live Messenger Forensics (contacts, chat messages, webcam, shared folders, …).

I need help in finding recent documentation about that subject (WLM 2010, 2011). Not MSN Messenger version 8 …

Could anyone help me?

Thx.

C

Hey,

All I can say is good luck. Information about WLM is pretty rare as Microsoft haven't released anything since 2001. If you are looking for info about transmitted data then there are a few websites that show the majority of the work carried out using reverse engineering- all plain text so easy enough to decode.

From my limited knowledge contacts are stored centrally and updated everytime you log in. Chat messages are not stored by default and the user is asked after the first conversation if they want to store them . If they click no then they must be manually set to on. As far as I know no information is stored about webcam activity. Share folders are stored locally on the computer and a record of that is stored on the computer- normally in the My Documents folder though this can be changed. The recieved folder is also my docs.

Hope this helps
