my boss had some problems with his flash drive - SanDisk. He is waiting on a RMA replacement for it. At this time, he is unable to format the drive. With some advice from keydet, i was able to view the drive with a hex editor (Winhex) and carve out some of the data - to show him we could recover the documents. at this point, he has a backup copy of all the data at home and would like to wipe the drive clean of any data.
next to encrypting the drive, does anyone have a good wipe utility that is Windows based?
Respectfully,
Jeremy
Eraser is a very good, free product.

boot with helix, or other distro dd if=/dev/zero of =/dev/sda )
I think WinHex can wipe as well.

chague - would Knoppix work too? i know nothing about linux. what is the dd stuff and how does it work?
Knoppix will work as well. DD which stands for copy and convert, I guess CC was taken. Anyhow, DD is a command line utility that can perform many low level operations including zeroing out a drive. DD is most commonly used for imaging.

Hands down Best Crypt for the encryption part.
I think WinHex can wipe as well.

That was my thought…
