I'm going to be ordering some wireless adapters (PCMCIA or USB) to use on laptops in hacking and penetration related scenarios, and I was wondering if anyone had any reccomendations.

Basically I would like the adapters to

1. have LINUX and Windows drivers available,
2. be able to be put into monitor mode,
3. work with the more common penetration related software on both platforms,
4. be 802.11b/g/n compatible,
5. have an external antenna connector.

Any suggestions?

Any idea what the pen-testers and hackers are using?

Greetings,

Check Pauldotcom (http//pauldotcom.com/) for a lot of discussion on this sort of thing. You may have to listen to the podcasts, but that's worth doing if you're getting into this sort of work.

I bought an Assus USB /g one from OtherworldComputing that supports Win, Linux and OSx. Problem is that there are no drivers for 10.5 or 10.6 (

I don't have it with me here but I recall it uses a Ralink chipset so it should be able to do the things you listed.

Build a Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP).

You are set the rest of any radio frequency needs. D
