Does anyone out there know of write blockers that are inline SATA or inline IDE? It doesn't make much sense to me but I'm finding it impossible to find a 5.25 bay that is write protected yet has SATA–SATA or IDE–IDE capability. Everything I've found is SATA/IDE –> firewire. Talk about waste of time…copying at native speeds makes much more sense. Can anyone recommend anything?
I have been looking for this as well. I'm not aware of anything at this point. A shame since SATA has double the potential bandwidth of firewire 800.
There are two ways (hardware) to do this. I am not associated with either of these stores, but they work for me and I have both sets below.
1 Use a SATA Write Blocker that has Firewire 800, 400, and USB. Here is one.

2 There are many IDE to SATA drive kits, but not so many SATA to IDE. You can use a standard IDE Write Blocker on a SATA drive, but converting the SATA to IDE with one of these devices.

So if you get that converter and something like this one it will do the whole job for you.

Scott,
Thanks for the info, but I already have enough IDE/SATA to firewire write blockers. What I'm trying to find is something that has a SATA to SATA or IDE to IDE interface with write blocking capability.
I am not associated with this company, but this might be what your looking for. Looks awfully expensive though.

I guess the issue here is the desire for speed rather than Plug-and-play. With IDE, I would probably just stay with 1394 and get the plug and play feature. With SATA you almost double the bandwidth, but my current Proc and Acquisition tools slows things down anyway, so I would not see the benefit of that. With my box I am going to use these…

What is the price for the Vogon kit? I can't see a price on the site.

I am not sure of the exact figure but it is very expensive.
Called Vogon. They do not sell to individuals. Just to US Govt. and large forensic firms.
I asked for approx. price for the SATA imaging pod. I was told between $17,000 - $35,000 depending on the config.
Wonder what is so special about Vogon? I asked for additional info, but was told I had to speak with someone directly.
