I am about to invest in my first cell phone forensic kit and I'm agonising between XRY and Cellebrite UFED with Hex Dump plug-in. Is there anyone here that has experience of both and offer an opinion on which would be best as my main piece of kit? I know there is no one kit that does all, but I intend to keep buy additional kit as I go. I have seen both and I am impressed by both but don't want to get the wrong one regret it……. any advice will be gladly accepted! The licensing period of UFED is a bit unfortunate as it will already need renewing at the end of March if I buy now.

There is only a short answer to this you need both.
I work with both and can't do the daily work without any of the two, but we have both cdma and gsm over here.

Thanks Biedubbeljoe! Do you use the hex dump plug in on the UFED too?

Although I have not used XRY so I cannot speak for their software, but I have been utilizing Cellebrite and it has been great. I have never had one problem with that product every phone it says it supports it does, never any connection issues, no problems what so ever. We are awaiting the physical plug in it should arrive this week.

Thanks for that pronie2121. Maybe the way to go initially is Cellabrite and then I could maybe add XRY as I progress. I am unsure about the justification of the cost of the UFED Physical Plug in initially though.

Couldn't agree with you more. We also use XRY and UFED along with XACT and UFED's Physical Analyzer.

There are pros and cons with them all but together you often end up with a far more complete result.

I must agree we use XRY for logical but Cellebrite for logical and physical exams. If i had to choose one - I would start we Cellebrite.

I use both XRY and CelleBrite and prefer XRY. The out put is better (excel spreadsheets instead ofHTML report). I have used CelleBrite on some Nokias and it has missed text messages and sometimes the call register. Although a very good kit to have I would go for XRY. Also once you have XRY you dont have renew the liscence every year. Only think is that you won't be able to update to the latest software…..
