Hello to all, this is my 1st post, and sorry for my English.
I have a case now, where the court ask me the following questions about a video published in Youtube.
There is possibility that in that video has a crime and the court want to know this
1. Is this video true or fiction
2. Is any possibility to get to the person who publish it?
I made the download of video and as i already suspected, the metadata on video is not helping much, because the metadata, is all about the extraction agents i used.
The video as some tags writed on top of some frames, that tells me that the video after beeing captured was edited on a video software .
Now my questions
Does youtube save the original videos?
Is there any way to download the video that captures the original metadata?
Does the metadata is lost on upload process, because of compression and resizing?
Does youtube save the IP address of the publishers every time they publish something?
There is some way to see if the frames have forgery data?
Hope someone could help me ASAP, because i'm a little delayed in this?
Thanks in advance
Good afternoon Bruno,
+ Does youtube save the original videos?
The original version of the uploaded video content is cached on YT servers very briefly (a matter of hours) - it is compressed and reformatted before being made available online. Again, the time between upload and indexing to be publicly available ins searches (unless the video is restricted/private) takes less than fifteen mins.
+ Is there any way to download the video that captures the original metadata?
There's not much metadata available, but should be available so long as you are not seeking to convert the media during the download process. Some of the tags and embedded information on the relevant YT webpage may help.
+ Does the metadata is lost on upload process, because of compression and resizing?
In the main, yes.
+ Does youtube save the IP address of the publishers every time they publish something?
Yes - such information is available if you work for a Police lab and go through the normal channels, or can be released subject to an order from the Court.
+ There is some way to see if the frames have forgery data?
I think what you are asking, is whether the footage is one continuous recording or if it has been chopped up/edited. Can you tell me a little more about the circumstances and I can help a bit more?
I think we exchanged messages you a few days ago - feel free to drop me PM if I can be of further assistance.
Regards,
Ross
