Hi,

I've been waiting a lot of time to get Physical extraction via EDL for ZTE Axon 7 A2017 Premium
So thank you MSAB, great release 7.8.1!

But just a small question, I'm having trouble inserting the device to EDL using the EDL cable.
Has anyone had any luck with it?

Thanks!

Hi John!

Is the device locked or unlocked, if unlocked are you able to see the Android/Security patch level of the device? Some brands tend to patch away the EDL mode with the more recent software updates after which it is not possible to enter EDL mode.

I can also see from the instructions in XRY that the EDL cable is not needed for this phone, does the phone simply start to charging when you follow the instructions in XRY? Should you need any further help don't hesitate to contact us at support@msab.com!

That is quite incorrect. EDL mode cannot be "patched away" as it is an inherent feature of the chipset.

John, once you do get an extraction for this model, please check if the user data gets properly decrypted.

While that may be true we have noticed that the methods used to enter EDL mode may change with updates to the device so it is possible that the instructions mentioned may not work depending on the devices security patch level.

Thanks for the reply.
When I connect the phone according to the help in XRY (vol+ vol- and connect cable), nothing happens (no charging).

But I also tried to insert Xiaomi MI 5S Plus premium to EDL using the cable and then I saw the charging icon..

Is it a known issue?
Thanks!

Usually when a phone is put into EDL mode nothing is displayed on the screen but if the device starts to charge that usually means that the device has not successfully entered EDL mode. For the ZTE when you pressed Continue after having followed the instructions did it show you any connections to select or did it say no connected devices were found?

That sounds odd, I just tested with the we had in the office and if I connect the cable without holding the volume buttons the device starts charging but if I hold the buttons the device will not show the charging icon and enters the EDL mode.

Could you try connecting the device, with the two volume buttons pressed, and check in Device Manager for what shows up under Ports (COM & LPT) and send a screenshot of this to support@msab.com please? Hopefully we can get to the bottom of why it's not working but as it does not start charging it sounds like we are able to enter the EDL mode.
