subpoena request in USA

Hello,This is my first post here. I have been performing some CF analysis and investigations in the past. This is the first investigation where I need to subpoena some ip address logs from google, but to be honest I am not sure of the procedures involved in requesting a subpoena. None of the Forensic books and or study material which I have, covers this aspect and I was not able to find a direct answer to this on the internet either. If someone could please clarify this for me I would be very thankful. I know that in most cases the Lawyer involved in the case requests the subpoena, but I would like to do it myself. I guess the main questions which I have are1) Who do I contact, I have read the subpoena needs to be signed by a judge, but then I have also read that the DA can provide a subpoena for records?2) If I need to request a subpoena, can I request it in my state or do I have to contact the DA or Judge residing in the state and county where Google is located?Thanks!

The Electronic Communications Protection Act details who can get what from an ISP and how to get it, (subpoena or warrant). You might want to check that out.
