True story: The Orlando (Fla.) Police Department is taking a homicide suspect to trial. The bad guy’s cell phone is being held as evidence. Apply sophisticated software to reconstruct deleted files and — what have we here? We see the defendant dressed in the clothes that witnesses described. Plus, there are pictures of the murder weapon. Score one for the white hats. The software to accomplish this came from BKForensics, a Bucks County firm devoted to helping law enforcement tease secrets out of our portable devices. The firm has been growing steadily since 2004 thanks in large measure to a policy of not charging the customers anything at all…
