Distributed Password Recovery: introducing Resource Manager
Passware Kit introduces a built-in resource management tool that allows computer forensic professionals to easily configure, manage, and monitor a cluster of Passware Kit Agents. Coupled with the redesigned Distributed Password Recovery system from the last update, the all-new Resource Manager ensures optimal hardware utilization and efficiency during concurrent password recovery operations.
The Resource Manager is accessible from the “Tools” menu of the Passware Kit. It allows investigators to set up local and remote Passware Kit Agents in a password recovery cluster prior to running any decryption tasks. The new streamlined status list and improved Resource Manager UI provide an easy way to view detailed performance and hardware issues within the cluster.
Password recovery for yescrypt hashes
The list of supported hashes has been extended to include yescrypt, which is now the standard password hashing method on recent Linux systems.
Performance for yescrypt is over 580 passwords per second on a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU.
Support for WD My Passport drives extended
Passware Kit Ultimate 2024 v2 and Device Decryption Add-on offer the capability to unlock, decrypt, and recover passwords for a broader selection of Western Digital My Passport drives. Support is added for 2023 (88i1053 chip) and the older 2014-2017 models (88i9446 chip), in addition to My Passport versions 2018-2022.
Instant decryption of FileMaker 2023 databases
Passware Kit instantly decrypts databases of the latest FileMaker version (2023, FMP12 files), for both Windows and macOS.
Windows password reset: extended RAID drivers support
The Windows Admin password reset feature improves compatibility by adding support for drivers’ INF files in UTF16-LE encoding.
Improved Passware Bootable Memory Imager
Passware Bootable Memory Imager now features an updated boot loader for stable launch. It also adds support for KeyTool certificate management utility, enabling the removal of traces of using PBMI for acquiring a memory image.
Usability enhancements
Passware Kit 2024 v2 includes a number of user interface improvements to simplify workflow. One of the enhancements is displaying the load level of Passware Kit Agents for Linux during the distributed password recovery.
When working with disk images, Passware Kit now saves a decrypted image as a DD raw file, a format widely supported by forensic applications.
Passware Kit’s user interface also features QR-codes and short links with the domain passwa.re, simplifying the workflow in air-gapped environments.
