Honours Dissertation Issues Recovering Facebook Artefacts

I'm a 4th year student currently doing their Honours dissertation. I have recently found that Facebook have changed their privacy settings and my inital project idea is affected.

The goal of my project is to determine what forensics artefacts can be extracted from Facebook. Previous papers have stated that it's possible to recover cached messages, however it now seems as though only 'third-party' photos are saved and not message traffic. The other issue is Facebook has appeared to have banned the scraping of profile content.

My question is, what options do investigators have for extracting relevant and valuable artefacts after these changes?

Facebook is constantly changing the way it interacts with devices and it is a challenge to keep up with for Investigators. The artefacts will vary significantly depending on what device is accessing Facebook. E.G Is it through a browser and if so which one? Is it through an APP? What OS Version and device model (if mobile)

The way forward - Test, test & more tests. That's what research is all about.- Even if you can't find any forensic artefacts anymore - that in itself should tell a story for your dissertation!
