My story
Did Computing (Forensics) at University. Graduated in 2006.
Worked like crazy to get a job straight out of University. Started work 3 days after my final exam.
The rest is history.
I was able to do this because there were not many degree courses in the field at the time and there were plenty of jobs. Now, however, almost every university has a forensics degree. Many of these are lacking in depth and relevance.
Even the brightest and best are finding it difficult to land jobs because the entry-level market (doing police work) is drying up. I heard that another well known forensics company closed their doors a couple of weeks ago and a couple more are on death's door.
The situation has become so dire that rather than join an existing company, a couple of recent grads just decided to start a business themselves. Credit to them. At the same time though I know two very talented, knowledgeable grads who have all but given up on trying to find work in their field of choice.
I would go so far as to say that, in the UK, we've almost hit critical mass. There's just not enough work to keep everyone busy and employed. There are loads of unemployed forensicators in the UK with lots of experience. I would say that it is highly unlikely that a grad would get a job, these days, unless they are very fortunate.
British forensics degrees are simply not worth doing at the moment because
a) The lecturers typically know nothing of the subject
b) The chance of getting the right job is virtually nil
c) Traditional forensics is becoming less common
If you want to get ahead do something in computer security, incident response, or eDiscovery. There are the growth areas.
There's certainly a blog post in this. I've written and rewritten it hundreds of times but just can't bring myself to publish it.
ya, i knew it , the degree just the fundamental and a piece of paper only. But in my currently university , we still learn the business subject in our course. This sem we have 6 subjects per sem and 2 subject is the business subject. This is what i most dont like. Ya, i feel like want getting the Compita A+ or other professional certification. when my CHFI is complete.
anyway thanks for u advice.
If you ever want to get into corporate work, you're going to want to have done the business subjects. Understanding how your client base works and what drives them helps to anticipate and fulfil their needs.
Ya .. That I know .. Just I don't like and hope can involve in more computing related subjects …anyways thanks .
