Applying for multiple positions at the same company

Hello!

I am currently a final year student at university and I'm beginning my search for jobs once I graduate. Generally, I've been applying for positions in which I match the requirements which is simply enough but when a company has multiple positions of the 'same' job but only differ in experience such as;

junior investigator -> investigator -> senior investigator

What would be recommended for me to do if I think that I fall somewhere in the middle of two positions. Using the example, I meet all the requirements for junior investigator but when it comes to the investigator role, there may be one or two things that are desirable that I don't quite meet. For these situations, would it be acceptable to;
apply for both roles?
apply for the investigator role and hope for the best?
or stay safe with the junior role and then to progress at a later date once I'm in the job.

Apply to one; if they feel you would fit in the other position they tend to tell you.

As a graduate I would say you are on the junior investigator role, in most cases the investigator roles require experience which is what you will be lacking (well graduates in general).

I guess it depends on the organisation. I notice you are from Stoke on Trent. There are positions available at Greater Manchester Police and in this case I can confirm it would be suitable for you to apply for multiple positions. Please take a look at the Job Vacancies on Forensic Focus for details of the roles.

The paper sift will assess the applications to identify whether you meet the essential criteria to progress through the recruitment stages of each role.

Generally - Investigator and Senior Investigator roles are aimed at candidates with experience of working in the industry.

Technicians / Examiners / Junior Investigators are usually more suited to graduates.
