Hello, I am not sure if this is the right forum to post under, apologies if not. I recently started looking into computer forensics, I have no prior IT experience or anything. I’m wondering, what would I do to start? What steps could I take to start a career in this field? What courses do I need to take? Can I start a job in this field without a degree to get my foot in the door? any help would be greatly appreciated. any sources would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

One thing that's helped me was participating in forensic-related CTFs. They give you questions / scenarios for you to answer and you'll typically need to search through given phone/computer images. Starting them with no experience is a little tough, but it lets you get a little more familiar with the tools. The last one I participated in was through Magnet Forensics.

Otherwise, check out some webinars on Cellebrite, Magnet, etc. websites - they have some really good ones.

If someone is willing to pay for it, certifications are always great and they're great for learning tools/methods/etc - but they can be expensive.

Lastly, try searching for open-source forensic software and testing your own devices. Just getting familiar with various tools, types of extractions, etc is a great place to start.
