I just finished getting an online degree with a school listed on this site, I graduated with high marks (3.89GPA) specializing in computer forensics and moved on to my Masters degeree in security assurence and auditing. Now I am wondering what my next step should be since this is new to me I am doing a career change.

Hello MickD211,

Congrats on your degree -)

Your question is one that's asked daily in forums, listserves, friends talking, college campuses, etc. It's what you will see is the part of the profession the counselors and administrators don't tell you about. What do I do? How do I get a job? Do I even have the right training?

I don't say this to be mean, I say this to generate thought. Please don't think about this from the standpoint of MickD211 the graduate looking for a job. Think of it as MickD211 the confident company owner who has built his business up to a nice clientele base.

If you don't know how to investigate what your next step is, how eager are the recruiters going to be when looking at your posts online?

Please think about it, then post, lets have a discussion and see if we can't get you somewhere you want to be.

Thank you for your reply and your comments. I understand about selling myself and what puzzles me is how to do. I have 13 years in the Army got out as a Sargent, I have some training and experience troubleshooting and repairing slot and video poker machine, 5 years in customer service and a couple years as a quality control inspector, I can work within teams and on my own. I enjoy the chase and the satisfaction of a job well done. I have strong communication skills both oral and written.

Is this what you are asking for, I can list everything I have done and most of my background. I am being realistic here and knowing I will need to get in at the ground floor. One though would be getting in through the government. Your right about not being told about this aspect, the school did not even give me a test just to see if this would have been a good fit much less advise me that maybe I should just follow another path. I had one professor who gave me some advice on what I should do unfortunately I do not have the cash for any kind of certification training. Like writing my resume all I need is some idea of how to build my "clientele base" as you stated. I am pretty good with doing the research when pointed in the right direction, heck once I understood how the Rubik's cube worked I was able to solve it.
