We've been looking at a .ad1 file attempting to open it with FTK. It was created with FTK Imager. When attempting to open the drive image in FTK, the error message "…is not a recognized evidence file." Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

Small point - you didn't mention what version of FTK you're trying to open the AD1 file with.
Accessdata's FTK didn't have the ability to open one of these until version…1.62? (I think, happy to be corrected)
The irritating thing was, it was possible to CREATE them in FTK Imager before that…..
(edit) whoops - didn't see the date! You've probably worked this out already….
